Toontown offline commands4/8/2024 I'll still be checking up often, but what used to be checking Reddit, IRC, MMOCF, etc daily will not become weekly or maybe even less than that, and I'll be moving on to other hobbies that I enjoy a lot more (retro computing, retro gaming, Python programming for Panda3D in general and not just Toontown, etc). I will still be actively maintaining Toontown Offline and making sure it gets the bug fixes it needs and new features whenever I am feeling in the mood to work on some Toontown, but Toontown is no longer going to be an active part of my life like it has been.Įffective immediately, I will be leaving the community (mostly). With the exception of Toontown Offline, however. That is all behind me now, the game is long gone and I have no plans on ever reviving Origins or even taking part in other servers. So now you know the 100% honest truth coming from the main developer of the project about the structure of Toontown Origins and what was planned. ![]() And not everything was TTR's code, we had done some of our own stuff as well, and we were actively developing Cashbot Field Offices and Cog Nation, as well as restoring Toontown Online features. These would've eventually been switched out with libpandadna for DNA parsing and maybe libtag for nametags if they were stable enough. The nametag system was TTR's and so was the DNA parser. ![]() TTI made so many tweaks to their source that it'd be obvious right by looking at the resource files that it was their source. Had we been doing that, we'd have libpandadna, which I'd rather have, as well as a different nametag system among much more. In the end, TTR gets credit for the client services manager, and a few other things, but certainly not everything, as I also had contributed a fair amount. The initial intent wasn't to advertise the game as being 100% Toontown Online based either, and had the trailer been delayed longer, it would've given TTR credit where due, but that's only had we not ditched the modules we were using from TTR by that time, which I was planning to do anyways. Admittedly, some of the back-end code was TTR's but modified. Toontown Origins was not 100% Toontown Online based. Having said that, I am going to be clearing some things up about Origins and will be entirely honest since at this point, my reputation may or may not already be rather trashed, and it's not going to matter anyways. To some, it may be a good memory, and to some, it may be a bad memory. All the staff members have gone separate ways, the Skype chats have disbanded, the website's closing, everything we've established will be shuttered within the next few days if they have not already, and I may even delete the source code. So as it stands, Toontown Origins is dead. I may not agree with everything Rewritten has done as far as tweaks go, but they have a good idea of what players want, hence why they have as many players and as much support as they do. Did I ever doubt that they could? Well, I may have said so, but deep down I knew that my doubts were just because I was headstrong and admittedly, I was. ![]() We really don't need two servers trying to achieve the same goal, and Rewritten has the team to get this done better than we could probably. Considering how it was going to be basically in the same style as Rewritten a server as closest to Toontown Online as possible, it only further proves this. I put some thought into all of this earlier today while sitting in school of all places, that maybe Toontown Origins was just a waste of my time and the team that was working on the game as well, and well, I was right. There's no need to have several servers if they're all the same. I could tell from the moment the trailer was released way before it should have and the initial response to the project that maybe it wasn't such a great idea after all, and looking back at it now, I have decided that Toontown Rewritten, Toontown Infinite, Toontown Apex, and maybe a few others are really the only servers that we need. This is no longer the case.Īs far as Toontown Origins goes, it's dead, Jim. Toontown Origins was set to be a new server released late Spring of this year. If you still don't know who I am, I am a developer for Toontown Offline and was a developer for an upcoming server known as Toontown Origins. I've gone by many names in this community. ![]() Pinkermash, or Sparky Rewritten, etc etc.
